Book Launch for Dane Swan's He Doesn't Hurt People Anymore > OCTOBER 11

Dumagrad and Type Books invite you to the launch of 2017 Trillium Award finalist Dane Swan's debut story collection, He Doesn't Hurt People Anymore, seven slices of urban redemption, resilience – and revenge.

Swan sketches his stories with a poet’s economy of style, and with a master’s feel for the moment that exposes not only character, but fate. He introduces beaten up boxers and classical violinists, small time drug dealers and white collar moral wrecks. Firmly rooted in contemporary (though unnamed) Toronto, Swan’s tales are animated by his gift for sparking an immediate sense of familiarity with his characters, and bound together by his insight into the ways we hurt, and the ways we heal.

A skilled performer of his work, Dane will move you quickly from profound empathy to tears of laughter. Catch this rising star of CanLit now, in the intimate surroundings of Type Books – his next appearance is at the 2017 International Festival of Authors!

Dane Swan was born in Bermuda and moved to Canada in his late teens. A classically-trained musician and a veteran of slam poetry stages across North America, his poetry and essays have appeared in numerous print and online journals. He has published two collections of poetry with Guernica Editions, Bending the Continuum and A Mingus Lullaby, a finalist for the 2017 Trillium Book Award for Poetry.
