CAROUSEL is an exquisitely produced bi-annual hybrid literary + arts magazine focused on promoting a full range of Canadian talent within an increasingly borderless, contemporary context. The journal dedicates equal space to word & image; it offers an open environment emphasizing the creative investigation of art and literary forms. CAROUSEL 37, our latest 88 page issue, features art, fiction, poems, and hybrid works by Mark Connery, Erin Curry, Matt Davey, W.A Davison, Danielle Dutton, Justin Gordon, Lee Hannigan, Drazen Kozjan, Aaron Linton, Billy Mavreas, Derek McCormack, Devon McFarland, Steve Meagher, Luke Ramsey, Ethan Rilly, Eric Schmaltz, Fiona Smyth, Justin Stephenson, James J. Stevenson, Mallory Tater, Jon Vaughn, Christine Walde, Georgia Webber, Liz Worth and Daniel Zender, along with the following feature articles: Emily Fitzpatrick pens a feature on St. Catharines-based aboriginal/new generation artistMaggie Groat; Marc Ngui interviews comic artist Anders Nilsen about his practice and his latest work, the eclectic and formally inventive Poetry is Useless; Mark Laliberte looks at the work of L.A.-based artist Richard Kraft, and his recently released radical collage-comic Here Comes Kitty: A Comic Opera.
In the pages of 4PANEL 1, four talented artists explore the four-panel strip form in unique and beautiful ways! Each strip produced for this book by Mark Connery, Jesse Jacobs, Mark Laliberte and Anuj Shrestha has its own small concern, but their cumulative effect help to reveal the magic that happens when individual creators strive to reinvigorate a traditional format by focusing it through their personal creative lenses.
